A famous South Devon sunset ensures you are ‘in the moment’ – in awe of the lightshow above. The twin pillars frame the vista, monuments of a past that lingers. A fun fair ride rises up like a green shoot, entertaining the young, whose family lines stretch back to the very start of the species. And in between, regular folks, friends, family, strolling out for some time together. We love our boxes, our neat lines, our clear boundaries. The Present – well, ten billion platitudes and motivational posters speak of it. The Past presses down or guides the way for millions – and the Future, well, it is the dream and the nightmare and the object of speculation for many. But in a single captured moment we can see there are no clear lines. Past, Present and Future – they flow together, interdependent and interconnected in ways no human brain can untangle.
