Drake’s Island was given to the privateer (read ‘pirate on our side’) Francis Drake. It guards the entrance to Plymouth Sound. From the woods around Mount Edgcombe, you can see different angles of the city, the sound, and Drake’s Island. The walking in these woods are second to none – the acorn trail, which takes you all the way around the coast of the Southwest, leads from here. This is a perfect little spot to watch the world from.
