Roads As Yet Untravelled
8 November 2021
As autumn arrives, I am amazed at all I have seen and experienced in eight months. So many sights, sounds, tastes and textures rewarded my little explorations – and I am immensely grateful to be here. There are far too many adventures to be had for a single lifetime… far too many side roads to ever walk them all. But the trick, I think, is to die trying. As the days grow shorter and the sky darker, and the cool winds bring a real winter over the land, I am just happy that I got to spend summer exploring. And as we button down the hatches, and curl up beneath blankets in front of the fire to outlast the cold – I look forward to next summer – and the walks, road trips and adventures that await then. Country roads promise things beyond what even the most fantastic of liars can conjure – but they deliver, time after time. You don’t always get what you expect, but you nearly always get something worthwhile.
