It looks like any church window – except it’s not in a church. And the names and characters depicted are not apostles or saints – but writers. In the top left, Homer. Below him, Chaucer. Bottom left, Shakespeare. On the right: Dante, Milton and Tennyson. If indeed mankind builds worthy shrines, perhaps it is to the books that open worlds – and not close them. Gimme an amen.
